Every Friday, we will bring you definitions from the paranormal! Each week, we will define a term in each of these of areas: general paranormal studies, ghosts & hauntings, cryptids, aliens & UFOs, non-human entities, psychic abilities, and magic. Let us know if there are any terms you’d like to see defined!
General Paranormal Studies
Polytheism - Belief in a group of deities.
Ghosts & Hauntings
Audible Ear - A person's ability to hear things within the normal or typical human hearing range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. Ghosts are sometimes said to communicate outside the audible ear.
Cryptids
Trackway - A series of footprints or fossilized footprints left by an animal. These are often sought by individuals trying to prove the existence of a cryptid.
Aliens & UFOs
Project Blue Book - Continuation of Project Sign and Project Grudge, Project Blue Book was the official US Air Force program investigating UFO sightings from 1952 to 1969. The final report concluded that most sightings were misidentified natural phenomena or conventional aircraft, but also acknowledged that some cases were unexplained.
Non-Human Entities
Oppression - Demonic harassment that can be mild or severe that can affect a person's health, job, relationships, etc.
Psychic Abilities
Telekinesis - Similar to psychokinesis, but focusing only on moving objects at a distance using your mind.
Magic
Grimoire - A book containing instructions on how to create amulets and talismans, work spells, conduct rituals, invoke spirits, or other magical information.
